Blond, broad-shouldered Newt Kimball went 9-3 in four part-time seasons for the Dodgers. Sold to the Cardinals in 1940, he was returned to Brooklyn after pitching two games when Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis voided the transaction due to a mishandling of the waiver process. (JK)

» December 8, 1939: The White Sox trade Gee Walker to the Senators for Pete Appleton and Taffy Wright. The Sox also pick up OF Moose Solters from the Browns for OF Ray Radcliffe, both sluggers coming of poor years. The Dodgers get Gus Mancuso and Newt Kimball from the Cubs for Al Todd.

» May 9, 1940: After yesterday's rainout at Wrigley, the Dodgers score three in the 10th to beat Larry French, 4–1. Newt Kimball is the winner.
