An associate editor of The Sporting News, Kachline edited the Spink Baseball Guide and Dope Book for 20 years until 1967. He was the historian at the Hall of Fame from 1969 to 1982, when he became the first full-time executive director of SABR. He retired in 1985. (NLM)
