A career backup player (he had trouble hitting the curveball), Jones proved most
valuable to the 1985 World Champion Kansas City Royals as a
late-inning defensive
replacement for left fielder Lonnie "Skates" Smith. In the 1985 World Series, he
doubled and tripled in two pinch-hitting appearances. His brother Darryl was a DH-outfielder
for the 1979 Yankees.
