Jones was a second-line Cleveland Spiders pitcher in 1898 but good enough to be switched to the Cardinals in 1899 when owner Frank Robison, who owned both clubs, stripped the Cleveland roster in a vain attempt to build a St. Louis powerhouse. In 1900, Jones's only year of regular starting, he was 13-19. (BC)
