James C. Isaminger

1881-1946

Writer

Books and articles about James C. Isaminger

The rotund Isaminger broke in with the Cincinnati Times-Herald. In 1905, he was recommended by Ban Johnson for a job with the Philadelphia North American, where he remained until the paper was sold in 1925. He moved to the Inquirer, where he remained until his death. Isaminger was credited with investigative reporting second only to Hugh Fullerton in exposing the Black Sox of 1919. His columns "Under the Spotlight" and "Tips from the Sporting Ticker" were widely read, as were his reports in The Sporting News. He edited the Reach Guides from 1928 until they were discontinued just before WWII. President of the BBWAA in 1946, Isaminger was voted the J.G. Taylor Spink Award in 1974. (NLM)
