FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» April 17, 2002: The Royals explode for nine runs on eight hits in top of the 8th inning as they rout the Twins, 16–3. Carlos Beltran hits a 3–run home run in the 7th for KC, and Joe Randa and Raul Ibanez also have three RBIs. Paul Byrd (3–0) is the easy winner.

» June 30, 2002: In a 13–1 drubbing by the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium, Padres second baseman D'Angelo Jimenez comes in to pitch with two outs in the seventh inning. He retires the four batters he faces. But Jeff Suppan allows one run in seven innings, and Raul Ibanez uses a home run and triple to drive in four runs for the Royals.

» July 14, 2002: The Royals defeat the Angels, 12–3, as Raul Ibanez hits a grand slam in the 1st inning and a 3–run home run in the 2nd inning to tie a club record with seven RBIs.

» August 17, 2002: Going, going, Yan. For the 2nd day in a row, Tampa Bay's Esteban Yan gives up a 2-out homer in the 9th, and it costs him his closer's job. Yesterday, Raul Ibanez hits a 2-run homer to give Kansas City a 6–5 win. Today, Brent Mayne ties the score with a solo home run, then Mike Sweeney ices it for KC, 7–3, in the 12th with a 3-run shot. Ibanez adds a homer.
