The bespectacled, submariner was the AL's top reliever in 1958. He led in relief
wins (10) and saved 18 to account for 46% of the last-place Senators' victories.
His 1.75 ERA was Washington's best since Walter Johnson's 1.49 in 1919. Back problems
the next season ended his effectiveness.
