FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» May 13, 1996: Cubs' P Steve Trachsel allows a lead off double to Brian Hunter, but shuts down the Astros without a hit after that to win, 6–0. Sammy Sosa homers for his 3rd consecutive game.

» July 31, 1996: The Mariners club the Brewers, 9–3, hitting seven homers in the game. Jay Buhner, Ken Griffey, and Alex Rodriguez each have a pair, with Brian Hunter adding one. Sterling Hitchcock (11–4) is the winner.

» August 12, 1996: The Expos defeat the Astros, 8-1, in a game marked by a 3rd-inning 10-minute brawl which will result in 4-game suspensions being handed down to Henry Rodriguez, Moises Alou, David Segui, Jeff Juden, and John Cangelosi. Danny Darwin gets six games. Houston manager Terry Collins receives a gash that will require four stitches to close when he's hit by a thrown batting helmet. The fight starts when Rodriguez is plunked by a pitch, the apparent result of his stopping and admiring a homer he hit his last time up. Al Leiter pitches a 3-hitter to win, although he gives up a leadoff homer to Brian Hunter.

» December 10, 1996: The Tigers make their biggest trade since 1957, sending four players to Houston in exchange for five Astros. Detroit C Brad Ausmus, P Jose Lima, lefties C.J. Nitkowski and Trever Miller, and IF Daryle Ward go to the National League for starters Brian Hunter and Orlando Miller, Doug Brocail and Todd Jones, and a player to come later. Brocail, also involved in the 1994 12-player swap between San Diego and Houston, will be Detroit's Opening Day pitcher in April.

» April 5, 1997: Brian Hunter has four hits and three stolen bases as Detroit outlasts the White Sox, 15–12. Bobby Higginson and Damion Easley each hit 3-run home runs. The Sox Chris Snopek, filling in at 3B for Robin Ventura, out with a broken ankle, has three hits but makes his 3rd E in four games.

» June 26, 1997: In Detroit's 10–6 walloping of the Red Sox, Tiger Brian Hunter swipes four bases. Detroit also gets a home run from Shane Mack to offset two Boston homers.

» April 28, 1999: In the middle of their series with Seattle, the Tigers trade OF Brian Hunter to the Mariners in exchange for a pair of players to be named. Hunter was on the winning side in the first two games with Detroit, and Seattle will win the next two to split the series.

» March 30, 2000: The Rockies sign AL stolen base champ Brian Hunter to a contract.

» August 6, 2000: The Reds obtain OF Brian Hunter from the Rockies in exchange for P Robert Averette.

» December 3, 2001: The Phillies sign free agent OF Brian Hunter to a 2-year contract.
