The free-spirited Stanford graduate once quipped, "Billy Graham is a cracker." Hovley debuted with the one-year Pilots in 1969. A line-drive hitter with good speed, Hovley was generally a fourth outfielder and led the AL in pinch-hit appearances with ^b x x Kansas City in 1972. (JCA)
