» June 15, 1977: New York fans are in shock as the Mets trade ace P Tom Seaver to the Reds. In return they get P Pat Zachry, IF Doug Flynn, and minor leaguers Steve Henderson and Dan Norman. The Mets also trade slugger Dave Kingman to the Padres for utility player Bobby Valentine and a minor league pitcher.
» July 12, 1977:
Steve Henderson hits a game-winning home run, off Bruce Sutter, to give the Mets a 4–2 victory over the Cubs. After the game the Cubs relief ace admits his arm is bothering him, and asks to be excused from the All-Star game. Bleeding will be found in Sutter's arm and he will get the week off after the All-Star break to rest it.
» November 22, 1977: Montreal's Andre Dawson wins the National League Rookie of the Year Award by one vote over New York's Steve Henderson.
» May 30, 1978: In his first ML start for the Cardinals, Silvio Martinez hurls a one-hit 8–2 victory over the Mets. Steve Henderson homers in the 7th inning for the lone safety. Martinez will spin two one-hitters and two 2–hitters this season.
» February 28, 1981: The Mets trade OF Steve Henderson and an estimated $100,000 to the Cubs for slugger Dave Kingman, who led the NL with 48 home runs in 1979.
» April 5, 1983:
At Seattle, the Mariners open with a 5–4 win over the Yankees. Gaylord Perry makes his 9th Opening Day start, but the win goes to reliever Bryan Clark. Richie Zisk, a Yankee Opening Day nemesis, hits a two-run homer in Seattle's 4-run 3rd inning to chase Ron Guidry. New York chases Perry in the 6th with back-to back homers by Dave Winfield and Steve Kemp. Steve Henderson scores the winner in the 7th when he hits his 3rd single, steals second, takes 3rd on a grounder and scores on a sac fly.
