The son of 1930s NL catcher Francis Healy, Fran was regarded as a potential star
in 1974, when he hit .252 for the Royals with 53 RBI. Unusually fast for a catcher,
he had 16 stolen bases that season, the most by a ML catcher in 37 years. He caught
both of Steve Busby's no-hitters. His career sank with a shoulder injury in 1975.
Traded to the Yankees, he backed up Thurman Munson and was a valuable mediator in
the Reggie Jackson-Billy Martin feuds of 1977-78. He later became a broadcaster for
a NY cable sports network.
