Joe Cronin called second baseman Hayes "the best double play artist in the league." Hayes and shortstop Luke Appling formed a fine double play combination while Hayes was the White Sox' regular at second base for much of 1932-37. In 1937 Hayes's 115 double plays led AL second basemen. He had career highs of 84 RBI in 1936, and .328 average in 1938. (EW)

» December 4, 1931: Bump Hadley, Jackie Hayes, and Sad Sam Jones are traded from Washington to the White Sox for Carl Reynolds and John Kerr.

» March 28, 1940: During a 10–1 loss to the Cubs at Wrigley Field in LA, White Sox vet 2B Jackie Hayes catches a cinder in his eye. The eye will become infected and though he finishes the season, he loses the sight in the eye. In 1943 he will lose the sight in both eyes.
