Harris had a good fastball and a fair knuckler, but he pitched for poor A's clubs. His 21 losses (including 13 straight) in 1943 were the most in the AL. In the most successful of his years as manager of the Braves, he led Atlanta to the 1969 NL West title. The Mets swept the LCS. (EW)

» October 10, 1961: Billy Hitchcock takes the place of Lum Harris (17-10) as manager of the Orioles.

» September 19, 1964: The Colt 45s drop Harry Craft (61-88) as manager. He is replaced by Lum Harris.

» December 12, 1965: Roy Hofheinz fires manager Lum Harris (65-97). Grady Hatton takes over the Astros.

» October 7, 1967: Lum Harris is named manager of the Braves.

» May 29, 1969: With the Braves drubbing the Mets 12–0, manager Lum Harris lifts Hank Aaron for another Lum—Mike Lum. Lum hits a pinch double off Al Jackson and takes over in LF as the Braves coast to a 15–3 win. It is the 3rd time in his career that Aaron has been lifted for a pinch hitter.

» May 28, 1971: The Braves Clete Boyer, involved in a dispute with owner Paul Richards and manager Lum Harris over alleged silly rules and mismanagement, gets his release and retires. Boyer had hit safely in the last nine games of his career, including five home runs and 14 RBIs.

» August 7, 1972: Eddie Mathews takes over as Braves manager following the dismissal of Luman Harris. Things don't change as the Reds squash the Braves, 9–1, at Riverfront Stadium.
