» May 18, 1958: The Indians' Carroll Hardy pinch-hits for Roger Maris and smacks a 3-run home run off Billy Pierce to pace the Tribe's 7–4 win. Hardy will pinch-hit for Ted Williams in 1960. » June 13, 1960:
The Indians trade C Russ Nixon and OF Carroll Hardy to the Red Sox for Marty Keough and P Ted Bowsfield. Nixon had been traded in March to the Red Sox for Sammy White, but the deal fell through when White refused to report. Hardy once pinch hit for Roger Maris in Cleveland, and will do the same for Ted Williams this year, the only time Williams will ever have a pinch hitter.
» September 20, 1960: Boston OF Carroll Hardy pinch-hits for Ted Williams, who is forced to leave the game after fouling a ball off his ankle and grounds into a DP. It is the only time Williams has been pinch hit for; Hardy also pinch hit for Roger Maris when both were at Cleveland. The Orioles win 5–4 when Brooks Robinson pulls away from a pitch and accidentally bloops an RBI single in the 8th.
» September 28, 1960: At Fenway, in his final ML plate appearance, against Baltimore's Jack Fisher (12-11), Ted Williams picks out a 1-1 pitch and drives it 450 feet into the right-CF seats behind the Boston bullpen. It is Williams' 521st and last home run, putting him 3rd on the all-time list. Williams stays in the dugout, ignoring the crowd's cheers, but when he trots out to LF in the 9th, he is replaced immediately by Carroll Hardy. The Splendid Splinter retires as a standing crowd roars. The Sox rally for two runs in the 9th, featuring a double by Vic Wertz, to give the 7th-place Red Sox a 5–4 victory.
» May 31, 1961: Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris again homer as New York edges Boston, 7–6. Mantle's is #14, two ahead of Roger. In the 8th inning, Carroll Hardy pinch hits for rookie Carl Yastrzemski: last year he pinch hit for Ted Williams, making him the only player to go in for both future Hall of Famers.
» August 15, 1961:
Frank Malzone is 5-for-5 with a pair of homers in the Red Sox, 8–0 shellacking of the Indians. Gene Conley throws the shutout and hits a homer. Jackie Jensen and Carroll Hardy hit back-to-back home runs in the 5th.
» April 11, 1962: Carroll Hardy breaks up a scoreless duel with a 12th inning grand slam for a 4–0 Boston victory over Cleveland. This is first loss for Tribe's manager Mel McGaha who started with a win yesterday.
» December 11, 1962: The Red Sox send P Tracy Stallard, and infielders Pumpsie Green and Al Moran to the Mets for infielder Felix Mantilla. Tomorrow they will ship Carroll Hardy to Houston for Dick Williams.
