Hamner started and relieved for both Chicago clubs, but never had a winning season. His most active season was 1948 with the Cubs when he went 5-9, allowing nearly a hit an inning and walking more batters than he struck out. (JFC)

FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» May 7, 1948: At Chicago, the Dodgers use eight hits, three errors and one four walks to subdue to Cubs, 9–5. Preston Ward's bases loaded triple off Ralph Hamner following three walks is the key blow. Hugh Casey wins with five innings of shutout relief.

» July 5, 1948: The Cards Gerry Staley picks up a pair of wins in relief over the Cubs, winning 6–3 and 5–2 over Ralph Hamner and Johnny Schmitz. Staley pitches two innings in the opener and two 2/3 innings in the nitecap. It is the 2nd time in three weeks that the Cubs have lost a doubleheader to a single reliever.

» May 9, 1949: The first-place Giants win their 7th in a row as Sheldon "Available" Jones stops the Cubs, 7–2. Aided by ten walks and homers by Sid Gordon and Willard Marshall, the Giants pin the loss on starter Ralph Hamner, who allows one hit in three innings.
