Hamilton was the fifth starter on the A's teams that won three consecutive World Championships, 1972-74. Traded to the White Sox with Chet Lemon for Stan Bahnsen and Skip Pitlock in June 1975, he was used almost exclusively in relief. In 1976 he was made the stopper of the bullpen, collecting 10 saves while Chicago made an ill-advised attempt to convert Goose Gossage into a starter. (SH)
FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» October 11, 1972: The Tigers even the AL series with a 10th-inning 3-run rally to beat the A's 4–3. Jim Northrup bats in the game winner after Dave Hamilton walks home the tying run.

» June 15, 1975: The White Sox make one of their better trades when they swap Stan Bahnsen and a minor leaguer to Oakland for reliever Dave Hamilton and 20-year-old minor league 3B Chet Lemon.

» June 5, 1977: The Yankees hit six home runs, their most in three years, and barely edge the White Sox, 8–6. Bucky Dent, Reggie Jackson, Thurman Munson, Carlos May, Graig Nettles and rookie George Zeber connect. Zeber's clout, his first ML homer, comes off Dave Hamilton, and is the game winner.
