Hale was called up after his three hits led the Orioles' Piedmont League team to
an upset of the parent club in an exhibition game. His 19 pinch hits (an Indian record)
and 63 pinch at-bats in 1960 led the AL. 40% of his ML at-bats came as a pinch hitter.
