»July 12th, 1884: Boston (NL) C Mert Hackett is struck on his mask by
a foul tip, and his forehead is gashed by one of the
mask's wires. Louisville (AA) C Dan Sullivan is forced
to leave a game the same week when a foul ball breaks
through his mask.
