Pitching for Charlotte (Southern League) on May 13, 1985, Habyan no-hit Columbus in a 6-0 victory. He went from the Instructional League to Baltimore that September. In spending most of 1987 with the Orioles, he posted a 6-7 record, but pitched sparingly in 1988 and was traded to the Yankees for Stan Jefferson in July 1989.

After a season in the minors, Habyan made the Yankees in 1991 and posted a career-high 66 appearances, all in relief. But his playing time diminished the next season and in July 1993 he was sent packing again, this time to Kansas City as part of a three-team deal that brought Paul Assenmacher to New York and Tuffy Rhodes to the Cubs.

"I do have packing down to a science," Habyan's wife Bonnie told Baseball Weekly in 1996. The last three years of her husband's career were split amongst three more teams (the Cardinals, Angels, and Rockies) and by that time Bonnie had filled out eleven change-of-address forms over the span of five years. Even worse, thieves broke into the family car -- fully packed for the ride back to their home in Maryland -- after Habyan was released by Colorado. (JCA/JGR)
