Twice in his career, Green was traded to a club against which his team was playing
its next game. The Twins' everyday centerfielder in their first two seasons, Green
had a 24-game hitting streak in 1961, a club record until Ken Landreaux broke it
in 1980. (RTM)
FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
»May 29, 1961:
The Indians sweep a pair from the Twins, winning, 4–3 and 7–5. They end Lenny Green's 24 game hit streak in the opener. Cleveland scores the winning run in the opener on a bunt by Jim Piersall, who reaches 2B on a wild throw by 1B Don Mincher. On a foul out, Piersall dashes for 3B, then scores on a sac fly.
»May 10, 1962: Minnesota Lenny Green and Vic Power hit back-to-back home runs off Cleveland's Jim Perry to start the game, tying a ML record. Cleveland comes back to win 9–4. It'll be another nine years before two leadoff batters in the American League belt homers, and it will be Perry teeing up those as well.
»August 26, 1962: The Twins Jack Kralick no-hits the A's and wins, 1–0, on Lenny Green's sacrifice fly off Bill Fischer. A 3–2 walk to George Alusik with one out in the 9th spoils the bid for a perfect game. Alusik had beaten Kralick with a 2-run home run on August 8.
