Plucked off the Pittsburgh sandlots, Bobby was part of the Pirates' youth parade in the early 1950s. Considered one of the top defensive outfielders of his era, the speedy Del Greco made a great catch for the Cardinals late in the 1956 season against the Braves that aided the Dodgers in winning the pennant. » May 17, 1956: Pittsburgh continues swapping by sending OF Bobby Del Greco and P Dick Littlefield to St. Louis for OF Bill Virdon. Virdon, the 1955 Rookie of the Year, was hitting just .211 for the Cards when GM Frank Lane unloads him. Virdon will hit .334 the rest of the year for Pittsburgh.
