OF Don Grate of Chattanooga sets a record for
a long toss of a baseball in Chattanooga's Engel Stadium,
with a throw of just one inch better than 434 feet,
breaking a 42-year-old mark set by Larry LeJeune on
October 3, 1908. Grate will improve his own record
to 443 feet 31Ž2 inches on August 23, 1953.

Chattanooga OF Don Grate betters his 1952 record by throwing a baseball 443 feet 31Ž2 inches. Glen Gorbous will beat it in 1957.

Former major-league OF Glen Gorbous of Omaha breaks Don Grate's record toss with a heave of 445 feet 10 inches before a home game.
