Funk was a 5'8", lefthanded contact hitter. After a solid but unspectacular 1930 campaign with Detroit, he was sent down. In need of a leadoff hitter in 1932, the White Sox acquired him. They liked the centerfielder's speed and desire, but by 1933 they had better hitters. (RL)
