Funk was Cleveland's ace reliever in 1961, despite an AL-high 11 relief losses. He also won 11 and saved 11 that year. Funk became a minor league manager and ML coach. (ME)

» May 14, 1961: The Indians top the Orioles, 1–0, in 15 innings, scoring the lone run on a wild throw by 2B Jerry Adair. Jim Perry and Frank Funk combine on the shutout. The Tribe completes the sweep with a 6–4 win in the nitecap.

» July 9, 1961: Sherm Lollar's 9th-inning pinch-hit grand slam, off Frank Funk, for the White Sox crushes Cleveland 7–5. It is the 5th pinch slam in the American League this season—two by the Sox—and ties the ML record. The Sox also win a 2nd game 9–8. Over the afternoon eight home runs are hit.

» November 27, 1962: The Braves swap aging slugger Joe Adcock and P Jack Curtis to the Indians for P Frank Funk, outfielders Don Dillard and Ty Cline. With the addition of the 35-year-old slugger Adcock, 1B prospect Walt Bond will spend another year in the minors. Bond hit .380 with six home runs in 50 at-bats for Cleveland in September.
