Fraser was the Angels' first-round selection in the June 1985 draft. He joined their starting rotation when Kirk McCaskill and John Candelaria were sidelined in 1987, and went 10-10 with a 3.92 ERA. His 5.41 ERA in 1988 was largely attributable to the 33 home runs he allowed -- the most by any AL pitcher. The Yankees reached him for five homers that August 16, though California held on to win the game 15-6. On August 10, 1988, Fraser pitched a one-hitter against Seattle, winning 2-1.
