Fowler anchored the Philadelphia Athletics' pitching staff in the late 1940s, but despite his splendid fastball and fine curve, he never had more than 15 wins. In 1945 he returned from the Canadian Army to no-hit St. Louis on September 9. Fowler was one of three A's pitchers to lose an AL-high 16 in 1946. (EW)

» May 30, 1947: A's pitchers Dick Fowler and Joe Coleman stop the Yankees, recording two shutouts over New York, 1–0 and 4–0. Spud Chandler loses the opener, despite allowing three hits. » June 9, 1949: Athletics P Dick Fowler records nine putouts in a 12-inning 1-0 win over the White Sox.

» May 26, 1951: At Yankee Stadium, the Yanks top the A's, 8–5, with Mickey Mantle belting a bases-loaded triple off Dick Fowler that bounces off the bleacher railing in CF.
