The Cubs follow suit in their home opener, slamming the Reds 8–3 and beating Cub nemesis Ken Raffensberger. Rookie 1B Dee Fondy hits a 2nd-inning bases-loaded triple, off Ken Raffensberger, in his first ML at bat, one of his three hits.
»May 30, 1952:
In front of 35,999 at Wrigley, Big Bob Rush shuts out the Reds on two hits and the Cubs light up Bud Byerly and Joe Nuxhall for 15 hits and 11 runs. Dee Fondy has a double and triple to drive home three runs. Rush walks none while striking out ten and has now pitched 29 straight scoreless innings.
»May 1, 1957:
The Cubs send 1B Dee Fondy and 2B Gene Baker to Pittsburgh for 1B Dale Long and OF Lee Walls. Fondy hits .300 but will be traded, while Walls and Long will knock out 45 home runs for the Cubs this season.
»December 28, 1957: In a swap of first basemen, the Pirates trade Dee Fondy to the Reds for oft-injured slugger Ted Kluszewski.
»August 6, 1992: Padres Gary Sheffield and Fred McGriff become the first teammates to swat back-to-back HRs twice in the same game since Ernie Banks and Dee Fondy of the Cubs in 1955. The Padres win the game over the Astros, 7-5.
