FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» September 7, 1955: Whitey Ford continues his mastery with his 2nd consecutive one-hitter, beating the A's 2-1. Jim Finigan hits a 2-out single in the 7th for the Nats' only hit. Ford is the 5th ML pitcher to throw consecutive one-hitters.

» December 3, 1956: The Tigers send pitchers Ned Garver, Gene Host, and Virgil Trucks, 1B Wayne Belardi and $20,000 to the Athletics for pitchers Bill Harrington, Jack Crimian, 1B Eddie Robinson, and 3B Jim Finigan.

» January 28, 1958: The Tigers trade 3B Jim Finigan and $25,000 to the Giants for IF Ozzie Virgil and 1B Gail Harris. Virgil is the first black player in a Tiger uniform.

» June 5, 1958: The Giants again top the Braves in extra innings, 5–4. In the 12th, Jim Finigan doubles after Mays singles, but Willie is thrown out at the plate by Hank Aaron. Orlando Cepeda, with three hits already, then hits a Gene Conley fastball for the game-winning home run. Cepeda also helps in the field, nabbing Wes Covington in the 9th with a hidden ball trick.
