The Orioles conclude their 2nd large trade in three weeks sending C Clint Courtney, SS Jim Brideweser, and P Bob Chakales to the White Sox for C Matt Batts, infielder Fred Marsh, and pitchers Don Johnson and Don Ferrarese. Courtney batted .270 in 397 at bats, and struck out an American League-low seven times, the league's lowest since Joe Sewell hung up his spikes in 1933.

Despite a near-record strikeout performance by Don Ferrarese, the Indians beat the Orioles, 2–1. Ferrarese, making his first ML start after relieving for two years, fans 13. The Indians are hitless until Al Rosen homers in the 5th.

Orioles lefty Don Ferrarese allows no hits through eight innings against the Yankees, but Andy Carey and Hank Bauer open the 9th with singles. Ferrarese holds on for a two-hit, 1–0, victory.

Grand slams by Red Sox teammates Vic Wertz and Rip Repulski at Fenway Park give Boston a 9–7 win over Chicago. The National League-vet Repulski's 8th-inning shot off Don Ferrarese comes on his first AL at bat.
» June 29, 1961: With three round-trippers at Philadelphia—one a 10th-inning shot to win 8–7—Willie Mays becomes the 4th ML player with three or more home runs twice in one season. Manager Gene Mauch's efforts to conceal his starting pitcher and force Al Dark's hand has a Phillie lineup including hurlers Don Ferrarese (batting leadoff, playing CF), Jim Owens (3rd, RF), Chris Short (7th, C), and Ken Lehman (9th, P) against San Francisco. When Dark sends a lefty to the mound, Mauch replaces Ferrarese. Dark then replaces Billy O'Dell with Sam Jones. Mauch replaces Lehman with Dallas Green after two batters. All the maneuvering takes three hours and 20 minutes. The Giants then take the nitecap, 4–1, as Mays triples and doubles home two runs and completes a DP with a throw home.
» August 9, 1961: Cincinnati wins its 16th straight game against Philadelphia as Joey Jay blanks the Phils 5–0. It is the 13th loss in a row for the Quakers, their longest string of defeats since 1936: they've won just one in 19 games. Elio Chacon hits his first ML homer, off Don Ferrarese.
