A backup catcher his entire career, Fernandez never played in more than 94 games
a year during his six seasons in the majors. His two best years were 1969 for the
Yankees, when he hit a career-high .223 with 12 home runs, and 1970 for the A's,
when he belted 15 homers. (JK)
