The Giants top prospect Shawn Estes throws his first game of the season, pitching seven scoreless innings and striking out 11 Dodgers for his first win. The Giants win, 7–0.
» July 4, 1997: Giants' P Shawn Estes holds the Rockies to one hit in eight 2/3 innings as SF shuts out Colorado, 4-0. Quinton McCracken's single is Colorado's only hit as Estes fans 11 and walks only 2. Rod Beck comes in to record the last out.
» May 24, 2000: The Giants defeat the Expos, 18-0, as pitcher Shawn Estes hits one grand slam and narrowly misses another. The game is the Giants largest shutout win in modern times breaking their previous record, 16-0, set on July 3, 1949, against the Dodgers; the previous SF record was 14-0, against the Reds, on August 23, 1961. Their all time record is a 24-0 win against the Buffalo Bisons, on May 27, 1885. On the other side, the game was also the worst shutout loss in Expos history, breaking the record of 16-0, set against the Cardinals, on August 11, 1980.
