» June 24, 1977: At Minnesota, Chicago's Ralph Garr hits a three-run homer in the 3rd, but Jim Essian, the base runner on 1B, watches the ball to see if it will be caught and Garr passes him. Garr gets a single and two RBIs. Minnesota still wins, 7–6.

» August 9, 1977: The White Sox hit six home runs against the Mariners to tie the club mark at Comiskey Park. Eric Soderholm has 2, with Chet Lemon, Oscar Gamble, Jim Essian, and Royle Stillman contributing.

» December 11, 1981: Seattle trades OF Tom Paciorek to the White Sox for C Jim Essian, IF Todd Cruz, and Rod Allen.

» May 21, 1991: Manager Don Zimmer is fired by the Cubs and replaced by Jim Essian.

» October 18, 1991: Jim Essian is fired as manager of the Chicago Cubs.
