Egan was 6-15, 3.58 as a starter for the Cardinals in 1905 before an arm injury ended'[h)''@@his
playing career. He signed on to scout for Detroit in 1910, and remained with the
Tigers until 1950, sometimes doubling as a coach. His discoveries included Hal Hewhouser,
Dizzy Trout, and Hoot Evers, and it was at his insistence that the Tigers traded
Barney McCosky for George Kell in 1946.
