Dybzinski helped the AL West title-bound 1983 White Sox with clutch hitting and solid
defense at shortstop, but committed a key baserunning gaffe in Chicago's Game Four
LCS loss to Baltimore. Dybzinski was inserted in the lineup to replace regular shortstop
Scott Fletcher, who was 0-for-7 in the Series at that point. With two on in the seventh
inning of a scoreless tie at Comiskey Park, Dybzinski bunted into a force play. Julio
Cruz followed with a sharp single to left, and lead runner Vance Law was held at
third base. Dybzinski steamed around second with his head down before realizing third
base was occupied. During the ensuing run-down, Law tried to score and was thrown
out, effectively ending the rally; Baltimore won in the tenth inning.
