FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» May 24, 1971: In Philadelphia, the Reds Gary Nolan loses a one hitter to the Phils, 2–1. The only hit is Denny Doyle's 2-run homer in the 2nd inning.

» April 29, 1972: Leading the Phillies 4–0, San Diego ace Steve Arlin loses a no hitter in 9th with two outs when manager Don Zimmer pulls his third baseman in close. Denny Doyle then bounces a ball over the third baseman's head. Arlin finishes with a one-hitter, beating Steve Carlton. Doyle also had the only hit to defeat the Reds Gary Nolan in 1971 and the only hit in a Nolan Ryan one-hitter in 1970.

» July 18, 1972: San Diego's Steve Arlin takes a no-hitter against Philadelphia into the 9th inning before settling for a 2nd straight 2-hitter. The first hit comes when Denny Doyle hits a 2-out bloop single over the head of 3B Dave Roberts, playing in for a possible bunt. During the season, Arlin will notch three 2-hitters, a one-hitter, and a 10-inning one-hit stint, yet compile a 10-21 record.

» August 4, 1975: At Fenway, 35,866 are on hand to watch the Orioles topple the Red Sox, 12–8. Alexander is the winner over Willoughby. Despite the offense, Boston's Denny Doyle has his 22-game hit streak stopped.
