Doyle signed Branch Rickey out of Ohio Wesleyan University to play for the Texas League Dallas Steers. He later scouted for the Browns, Indians, and Phillies. He joined the Tigers in 1919 and stayed until his death in 1939. Eventual stars he scouted included Sad Sam Jones and Rick Ferrell. (FVP)
