The White Sox made the 6'5" Davis their first pick and the 13th player chosen overall in the June 1983 draft. The Red Sox, with the 19th pick, took Roger Clemens. Davis was rushed from high school through the minors and arrived ill-prepared in the majors at age 20. Each year his ERA rose while his confidence dwindled. In his one brief shining ML moment, Davis was the winning pitcher on April 21, 1987, when the White Sox ended Milwaukee's 13-game winning streak to open the season. (RL)
