The Dallesandro was a squat, colorful Cubs outfielder during WWII. The powerfully-built line-drive hitter batted .304 in 1944 but was called into the service in 1945 and missed the only Cubs pennant of the era. His nickname was short for "Diminutive Dominick," a reference to his 5'6" height. (BC)
