» February 17, 1937: The Yankees buy another Babe from the Red Sox, picking up Babe Dahlgren.
» May 2, 1939: After carrying out the scorecard to the umpires, Lou Gehrig voluntarily benches himself "for the good of the team." He is batting .143 with one RBI. His consecutive-game string stops at 2,130. Babe Dahlgren, his replacement, has a homer and double, as the Yankees rout Detroit 22–2. New York bats around in three innings to make it easy for Red Ruffing. Ballyhooed Tiger teenager Fred Hutchinson makes his major league debut and the Yankees light him up for eight runs in 2/3 of an inning. Hutch gives up four hits and walks five.
» June 28, 1939:
The Yankees hit eight HRs in the first game of a doubleheader with the A's, and five more in the nightcap. Both are major-league records, as is the 53 total bases in a doubleheader. Joe DiMaggio, Babe Dahlgren, and Joe Gordon each hit three HRs. The Yankees win the opener 23-2 and take the nightcap 100.
» August 13, 1939:
The Yankees beat the A's 21-0 to equal the major-league record for lopsided shutouts. Joe DiMaggio and Babe Dahlgren each have two HRs, one each inside the park. Red Ruffing collects four hits along with the victory.
» October 5, 1939:
The Yankees P Monte Pearson does not allow a base
hit until one out in the 8th. The Reds are shut out
4-0. Babe Dahlgren hits a HR and double.
» February 25, 1941: The days after the start of spring training, the Yankees sell Babe Dahlgren, the man who took over 1B from Lou Gehrig in 1939, to the Braves. The deal is questioned since no replacement seems apparent. McCarthy claims they would have won another pennant had not Dahlgren made a costly error at first late in the season.
» May 19, 1942:
Where are the frequent flyer miles? The Cubs sell Babe Dahlgren to the Dodgers, six days after they sold the Babe to the Browns on a conditional basis. The condition was that he hit, and after pinch hitting in two games, the Browns sent him back.
» March 9, 1943: The Phillies get Babe Dahlgren from the Dodgers for vet Lloyd Waner and Al Glossop. It is the Babe's 4th team in less two years.
» December 30, 1943: Happy New Year to a couple of Babes. The Phillies send the much-traveled Babe Dahlgren to Pittsburgh for catcher Babe Phelps and cash.
