The Orioles select Louisiana State University pitcher Ben McDonald (14–3) with the first pick in the annual amateur draft. He'll sign August 19 and debut September 6, missing by three days being the first in this draft to debut. The Jays John Olerud, picked on the 3rd round, will debut September 3, singling in his first at bat. The next three picks are high schoolers: the Braves take Tyler Houston; the Mariners pick Roger Salkeld; and the Phillies choose Jeff Jackson. The White Sox get Frank Thomas with the 7th pick, while the Angels take Kyle Abbott with the 10th, and Chad Curtis on the 45th round. The Dodgers use their 1st round pick on Jamie McAndrew, son of former Mets P Jim McAndrew. Mo Vaughn goes to Boston on the 23rd pick and Chuck Knoblauch to the Twins on the 25th (he had been picked on the 18th round by the Phils in 1986, but did not sign). On the 4th round, the Twins select and sign P Scott Erickson, who was drafted but not signed in the previous three drafts. » April 17, 1993:
In the Orioles' 7-5 loss to the Angels, Baltimore winds up with three runners on 3rd base in a rare display of dumb baseball. With the bases loaded and one out, OF Mike Devereaux hits a fly ball which is trapped by CF Chad Curtis. Curtis throws home. Jeff Tackett, the baserunner on 3rd, returns to the base after running halfway home. Brady Anderson, who was on 2nd, advanced to 3rd. Chito Martinez, the baserunner on 1st, rounded 2nd and headed for 3rd. Angel C John Orton walked to 3rd where he tagged all three runners. Tackett was called out on a force, and Martinez was called out, completing the inning-ending double play.
» April 13, 1995: The Tigers trade OF Tony Phillips to the Angels for OF Chad Curtis.
» May 28, 1995: In a 14–12 White Sox win, the Tigers and Chicago combine to hit 12 home runs—7 by the Tigers—and 21 extra-base hits to set a major league and American League mark, respectively. The 2-teams combine to set a ML for extra bases on long hits (45), with Detroit contributing 24. The Sox start rookie James Baldwin (25 hits, 15 runs in 13.1 innings) and Detroit remainders him with a leadoff home run by Chad Curtis, a walk, single and 3-run homer by Cecil Fielder. Curtis and Fielder each homer in the 2nd to finish the rookie. The Sox sink David Wells with successive homers in the 4th by Durham, Karkovice, and Grebeck. Cecil Fielder, Chad Curtis, Kirk Gibson, and Ron Karkovice each homer twice, setting another AL mark for the most players with two home runs in a game. Ray Durham, Craig Grebeck, Frank Thomas, and Lou Whitaker also connect for 4-baggers. Detroit's Danny Bautista, anxious to join the home run derby, fans five times (on 18 pitches) in six at bats to tie another mark for a nine inning game

The Dodgers obtain OF Chad Curtis from the Tigers in exchange for pitchers Joey Eischen and John Cummings. Curtis will lead off in place of the cancer-stricken Brett Butler.
» June 2, 1997:
The Indians waive Kevin Mitchell. The veteran was involved in a fight with Chad Curtis on May 20th that injured Curtis' thumb and put him on the 15-day DL. The Yanks will acquire Curtis in a week.
» June 18, 1997: At a packed Yankee Stadium, the Yankees edge the Mets, 3–2 on a 10th-inning RBI single by Tino Martinez. Solo home runs by Chad Curtis and Cecil Fielder off Rick Reed gives the Yankees their lead and Yankee starter David Cone dominates his former team and does not allow a hit until John Olerud's leadoff double in the seventh. The three games at Yankee Stadium draw 168,719.
» June 24, 1997: 1B Tino Martinez hits two singles, a double, and a pair of home runs while driving in four as the Yankees top Detroit, 12-9. Chad Curtis adds five ribbies for NY.
» October 26, 1999: Down 5-1 in Game three of the World Series, the Yankees bounce back to defeat the Braves, 6-5 in 10 innings. OF Chad Curtis' leadoff home run in the bottom half of the inning -- his 2nd of the game -- is the game-winner. Tino Martinez and Chuck Knoblauch also homer for NY, with Knoblauch's 2-run blast in the 8th tying the score at 5-5. Mariano Rivera picks up the win for the Yankees, hurling two scoreless inning of relief.
» December 13, 1999:
The Rangers obtain OF Chad Curtis from the Yankees in exchange for minor league pitchers Sam Marsonek and Brandon Knight.
» August 25, 2001:
The Rangers defeat the Red Sox, 8–7 in 18 innings, in six hours, 35 minutes—the longest game of the season. The teams combined to use 17 pitchers, one away from the major-league record for an extra–inning contest. Boston makes an error and a wild pitch in the last frame, and Chad Curtis scores on a grounder after stealing 3B. Chris Michalak is the winning pitcher: he was the loser yesterday.
