Cruz was Blue Jays Rookie of the Year and co-Rookie Pitcher of the Year in 1978 (7-3, 1.72, 9 saves). The pot-bellied righthander was then traded to Cleveland for infielders Alfredo Griffin and Phil Lansford. Continually fighting weight problems, Cruz did not fulfill expectations in Cleveland and received little opportunity in Pittsburgh or Texas. (ME)
