Despite showing some home run power (16 homers in 1982), Cruz didn't hit enough to hold a regular ML job. A lower back injury and broken hand cost him the entire 1981 season. In 1982 and until they were both traded in mid-1983, he and unrelated Julio Cruz formed a "Cruz-and-Cruz" doubleplay combination for the Mariners. (NLM)

» December 6, 1979: In one of their better trades, the Royals acquire 1B Willie Aikens, Rance Mulliniks from the Angels for OF Al Cowens, Todd Cruz, and Craig Eaton. Aikens will have four solid years in KC, including two 2–homer games in the World Series.

» December 11, 1981: Seattle trades OF Tom Paciorek to the White Sox for C Jim Essian, IF Todd Cruz, and Rod Allen.

» April 27, 1982: Todd Cruz, the Mariners' number-9 hitter, hits an 11th-inning home run for the 2nd straight game, helping Seattle to a 7–4 win over Cleveland. On April 25th, Cruz's solo home run in the bottom of the 11th capped a 4-for-4 day and gave the Mariners a 5–4 win over the Twins.
