Crews came to the Dodgers with Tim Leary from Milwaukee in exchange for Greg Brock. The reliever's 4-0, 3.14 record helped the 1988 Dodgers win their World Championship. After six years with Los Angeles, Crews signed a free agent contract with Cleveland in January 1993. On March 22nd he was killed in a tragic spring training boating accident that also took the life of Indians' closer Steve Olin and injured southpaw Bob Ojeda. (JFC)

»March 22, 1993: Cleveland pitchers Steve Olin and Tim Crews are killed, and Bob Ojeda is seriously injured, when the motorboat in which they are riding strikes a pier on Little Lake Nellie in Florida. Crews and Olin are the first active major leaguers to die since Thurman Munson in 1979.
