Corrales, a poor hitter, spent much of his career as the backup catcher to Johnny Bench in Cincinnati. On September 29, 1965, he became one of only four ML players to reach base twice on catcher's interference in the same game. He skippered the Rangers for two seasons and then the Phillies, who made him the only manager to be fired with his team in first place (7/18/83). Thirteen days later, Corrales replaced Mike Ferraro as the Indians' manager. In 1986, Corrales charged Oakland pitcher Dave Stewart and tried to kick him but was quickly decked by a Stewart right to the jaw. Corrales was fired by Cleveland during the 1987 All-Star break, with the last-place Indians on their way to their second 100-loss season in three years. (JCA)

The Reds take the nitecap, 3–1, scoring two runs when Pat Corrales hits a long drive that glances off the glove of Hank Aaron and over the fence for a home run. Pete Rose is 5-for-5, all singles.

» July 18, 1983: Despite being in first place in the National League East, the Phillies fire manager Pat Corrales because the team is "not playing up to its potential." GM Paul Owens will manage the club instead. Managing his first game, the Phils drop a 9–2 decision as the Astros shell Steve Carlton. It's his 11th loss of the year and drops the Phils into a tie for 2nd place with the Pirates.
