» June 10, 1965: In the College World Series, Ohio State's Steve Arlin pitches 15 innings, a CWS record, to beat Washington State, 1–0. Arlin strikes out a record 20 batters. The Buckeyes will lose in the final, 2–1, to Arizona State.

» June 8, 1976: The Houston Astros, picking first in the baseball draft, select Arizona State P Floyd Bannister, TSN's College Player of the Year. Bannister is one of 12 eventual major leaguers from the ASU team, which finished 3rd in the College World Series. The Tigers take P Pat Underwood with the 2nd pick. OF Rickey Henderson lasts until the 4th round.

» June 8, 1991: Louisiana State University wins the College World Series with a 6-3 win over Wichita State behind Chad Ogea. The Tigers complete the season with a mark of 55-18 en route to their 1st national championship.

» June 12, 1993: Behind the pitching of Brett Laxton, LSU wins the College World Series with an 8-0 victory over Wichita State in the championship game. Laxton sets a series record with 16 strikeouts. Teammate Todd Walker is named the Series MVP.

» June 8, 1996: LSU scores a dramatic 9-8 win over Miami to take the College World Series. The Tigers come from behind and win the game on 2B Warren Morris's 1st home run of the season, a 2-out, 2-run shot in the bottom of the 9th inning. It is the 1st-ever College World Series-ending homer. Morris missed 39 games this year with a broken bone in his right wrist.

» June 6, 1998: USC wins the College World Series with a 21–14 victory over Arizona State. 2B Wes Rachels, voted the Most Outstanding Player of the Series, set a championship game record with seven RBIs and tied another with five hits. The football-like score will set off debate about bat reform.
