A native Bostonian, Coleman edged out Lindsey Nelson for his first pro sports job as the Cleveland Browns radio announcer in 1952 and joined the Indians in 1954. He replaced Curt Gowdy as the voice of his hometown Red Sox in 1966 and, after a four-year hiatus in Cincinnati, remained the Red Sox' radio play-by-play man through the 1980s. He called the 1967 WS for NBC-TV. (SL)
