A pinch-hitting specialist, Clemens went from the Cardinals to the Cubs as part of the Lou Brock deal in May 1964. He was platooned in centerfield and hit .279 in Chicago. After the Phillies acquired him for Wes Covington in 1966, he led the NL in pinch-hit at-bats in both 1966 and 1967. His career pinch-hit batting average of .229 matched his overall average. (MC)
