Clear's sweeping curveball was almost unhittable, but it didn't find the strike zone often enough to make him a dominating reliever. He still averaged more than one strikeout per inning over 10 ML seasons, and won 14 and saved 14 as the Red Sox' bullpen ace in 1982. (SCL)
