Chiozza became the first man to bat in a major league night game when he led off for the Phillies in Cincinnati on May 24, 1935. Lean, swift, and swarthy, he had steel-gray hair even as a rookie. His brothers Dino and Joe also played pro ball; Dino appeared in two games for the 1935 Phillies. (JCA)
