Chance won the Triple Crown with Charleston (Eastern League) in 1963 and followed with a strong 1964 rookie season with Cleveland (.279, 14 HR, 75 RBI), batting .340 versus Washington. The Senators traded for him and Manager Gil Hodges said he was "the kind of hitter who could wind up leading the league." But the unrelenting bench jockey had a tendency to gain weight and proved a disappointment. He split the 1965-67 seasons between Washington and Hawaii. (JCA)
